Civil War "Charity Afire" Project
In April 2011, our nation began a five year commemoration of the American Civil War. This war touched the lives of the Sisters and Daughters of Charity, particularly during the time surrounding the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863. Our exhibit entitled Charity Afire tells the intriguing story of how the Sisters not only endured the war, but tended to the spiritual and medical needs of soldiers from both armies.
